N.B. All the melodies must be played solo, without orchestral accompaniment and without ‘affected’ changes in the arrangements given; if it is difficult to pass from one melody to another (especially when the key changes) in the same order as presented here, without long and unnatural transitional phrasing, then it would be best to separate them by making simple pauses as is usually done when played by village musicians – for specifically here one must try to preserve the village or folk style without introducing unnecessary ‘high style’ changes in key, tempo and the like which would be out of place in folk music. Only in case an instrument is used that ‘imitates’ the sounds produced by a flute – but for which the key of the melody is unsuitable – may the artist-musician transpose the melody to a higher or lower key, depending on whether it will sound better and from which it would be easier to make the transition from one melody to another.
